In a previous blog, we looked at the different names of God and saw that one of His names is Jehovah Rapha, the Lord that heals (Exodus 15:26). Let’s look at the scriptures to see what Jesus says about healing and that He is indeed our Healer.
In the Old Testament, the promise for healing was dependent upon obedience. The Lord told the Israelites if they kept His commandments and His statutes, He would put no disease on them as He did the Egyptians. The great news is that we live in the New Testament days where our blessings are dependent on our faith in what Jesus Christ did on the cross. We did nothing to deserve these blessings; they are all because of what Jesus did over 2,000 years ago, and all we need to do is believe in Him. God will not put any of the diseases from Deuteronomy 33 on His children that He did on the Egyptians, because of our faith in Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 53:4-5 says “Surely, He has borne our griefs (sickness, weaknesses and distress) And carried our sorrows (pain of body or mind); Yet we esteemed (considered) Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions (sins), He was bruised for our iniquities (guilt); the chastisement for our peace (and well-being) was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed (and made whole).” This is one of my favorite scriptures because it provides a great picture of Jesus when He went to the cross; He paid the price to heal us physically and mentally as well as restore us to fellowship with God by the forgiveness of our sins.
Isaiah wrote this scripture almost 400 years before Jesus actually became sin for us and took sin and sickness on Himself so that He could transfer blessings and righteousness to believers. Believers who have repented and accepted Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross can stand on the promises of God that by His stripes they are healed. In 1 Peter 2:24, Peter (who was one of Jesus’ disciples and a witness to Jesus baring our sins and sickness in His own body on the tree) said, “By His stripes I am healed.” Peter enables us to see that Jesus has already deposited healing on the inside of us. It takes our faith and belief on what Jesus did to bring the manifestation from the spirit realm to the natural realm.
There are numerous accounts in the Bible of Jesus healing the multitudes as well as individuals He met as He went from town to town. Acts 10:38 says, “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”
If you don’t know Jesus as your Healer, spend time with Him and let Him reveal Himself to you. Here are some scriptures to get you started at knowing who Jesus is and what He has done for you!
Psalm 107:20 – He sent His word (Jesus) and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions (sickness)
Proverbs 4:20-22 – My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; 22 For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh. The Word (Jesus) is health to your flesh.
Psalm 91:10-11 – No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague (sickness) come near your dwelling (body); 11 For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. No sickness can come near you!
Psalm 103:1-3 – Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: 3 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases,
Matthew 8:17 – that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses.” He took your infirmities (sickness)
By reading, studying, and meditating on healing scriptures, you’ll receive a fresh revelation of Jesus, the Healer.
