Did you know that Jesus had a purpose when He was physically on Earth? If Jesus had a purpose, doesn’t it make sense that you also have a purpose? Do you know what your purpose is? I believe we can have several purposes and that they can change over our lifetime, but our main purpose remains the same. Can you guess what it is?
I’ve heard many people say that they don’t know their purpose. I have said it many times myself. We link purpose with our identities, callings, and jobs. If we have the “perfect” jobs, spouses, kids, we believe we’ve fulfilled our purpose in life. We need to look to the scriptures to find our purpose, just like Jesus did.
1 John 3:8 says, “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” Jesus, the Word of God, came to earth to set us free from sin and sickness and to destroy the works of the devil. Sickness, pain, poverty, depression, anxiety, fear, and worry are all works of the devil.
Jesus’ purpose was to destroy the works of the devil. Acts 10:38 says, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him.” God was with Jesus, and He is now with us.
If you search the scriptures, you’ll find Jesus from Genesis to Revelation. Jesus saw Himself in the scriptures and knew Who He was and what He was called to do (His purpose). We can look to Jesus to see who we are and what our purpose is. Our main purpose is called the Great Commission, and we can find it in Matthew 28: 18-20, Mark 16:14-18, and Luke 24:47. Luke’s account is the shortest, while Mark gives much more detail. We can sum up the Great Commission as going out and telling others about Jesus and what He has done in our own lives. I used to think that I couldn’t make disciples or teach because I didn’t know enough about the Bible to witness to anyone. However, I now believe that we can start small by telling others our own testimonies. That is how I began.
I am blessed because I have a healing journey that captures the attention of others. We all have a story to tell and each of our stories can impact someone else’s life. God has shown me that it isn’t the crowd He is interested in—it is the one person whose life I can impact. Think about the one person who ministered to Billy Graham who then went out and impacted thousands of lives. What about the woman at the well who Jesus went out of His way to minister to? She became the first evangelist who into town to tell everyone what Jesus did for her. We can do the same. I love finding that one person who God brought across my path who needed to hear my story.
God created us with a purpose. He created us in His own image in order to have a relationship with us (Genesis 1:26-27, Jeremiah 24:7, Jeremiah 31:3,). Our purpose is to have a close intimate relationship with our Father, His Son, and the Holy Spirit. That should be our number one priority and then to go out into our sphere of influence and tell others about our Creator and Heavenly Father.
Not one of us is an accident, we were divinely created for such a time as this. God knew exactly when we would be born, who are parents would be, and the location where we would be born. I am not sure we understand it all but I know it makes us who we are. I used to wonder why someone who was born in the United States would move to another country to live and minister. I can’t explain it, but God uses it all to impact His Kingdom. Everything in your life (good or bad) can be used for good in God’s Kingdom. God can turn around what appears to be a bad situation and use it for good (Romans 8:28). I’m living proof of this scripture. What the enemy meant for evil to take me out, God is now being glorified through my healing journey.
My purpose is to teach and communicate the revelation of God’s heart and truth especially as it relates to healing. I thought the brain injury I sustained in 1995 launched me into this new journey; however, God revealed to me that it was only an obstacle that got in the way. My purpose has always been to teach and communicate—the brain injury that was meant for evil has only fueled my passion to help others understand the truth about God’s healing power.
Your main purpose is to share your testimony of what God has done in your life, and as you do, you’ll discover even more about what God has called you to do. And know there is a purpose for your life and why you are alive at this time in history.
Enjoy the journey!
