What do most famous battles in history have in common? How would knowing the answer help someone in their healing journey?
Life is an endless battle of conflict and peace. We cannot fight our battle effectively unless we can identify our enemy. Yes, we do have an enemy who wants to steal, kill, and destroy; however, we have Someone who came to give us abundant life enabling us to battle from a place of victory (John 10:10). Jesus came to earth to destroy the works of the devil by dying on the cross and being raised from the dead in order to destroy the power of darkness. That means it has already happened—the battle has already been won and the enemy has been defeated. The battle we fight isn’t to gain victory but it’s from a place of victory. We can accomplish this by knowing the truth through the Word of God, meditating on His Word, and believing the victory is already ours.
How did David know that he could defeat Goliath? David believed in God and knew that the Lord Almighty would be there when he battled in His name. David simply believed that Goliath was no match for his God and what He could do. The Lord had been there when David faced the lion and bear and defeated them both. As a shepherd boy, David spent many days and nights getting to know the Lord. David battled Goliath from a place of victory. He already knew Goliath would be defeated even if in the natural it looked hopeless. David’s brothers and those around him, including Goliath, mocked and ridiculed him but David was not moved. His eyes were focused on what God had done in the past and he knew without a shadow of a doubt, God would enable him to defeat Goliath.
We are soldiers in God’s army and should have the same faith and determination David had when he faced Goliath. Any “giant” or enemy attack (sickness) has no power over what God has already done. God sent His son to earth to heal and deliver us from destructions such as sickness, financial issues, pain, and anxiety, to name a few (Psalm 107:20).
Here are some key takeaways to help you do battle from a place of victory:
- Stay Focused. Keep your mind stayed on Jesus and not on your past. Stay focused on what Jesus has already done. A soldier learns to detach himself from the chaos of the battlefield and keeps his/her thoughts on the mission and not on what might be happening at home or around him/her. David’s only focus was on defeating Goliath.
- Know the Truth. The best way to fight off the enemy is to keep him from attacking you in the first place. How do you do that? Know the truth, study the Word of God, meditate on the Word, believe, and receive the promises of God. Build yourself up by knowing the Word of God and that you are a child of the most High God. David knew God and His promises.
- Know Your Legal Rights. While it is important to know your enemy, it is more critical to know your God. He has already defeated the enemy and won the battle. The enemy has no legal right to mess with you. Your job is to know the truth and to believe and receive the victory. David knew the victory was already his because he was battling in the name of the Lord. We have an even better covenant (legal right) because of what Jesus did on the cross over 2,000 years ago.
If you find yourself in a battle and are tempted to get discouraged or frustrated, know that you are not alone. You have the living God on your side and the victory is already yours!
