Did you know that the Bible calls sickness a curse? Deuteronomy 28 is a chapter that lists what God considers curses as well as what He considers blessings. The first fourteen verses list all the blessings and the remaining verses list the curses.
You will see that God calls out specific curses such as inflammation, fever, tumors, and blindness. God says that every sickness and every plague that is not written in this Book of the Law, is considered a curse. The Book of the Law consists of the first five books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. This biblical law is the legal aspect of the Bible, the holy scriptures of Judaism and Christianity.
Here is the Good News!!! Jesus Christ has redeemed us from any curse because He became a curse for us. You might be asking, “How can this be?” The Bible shows us in Galatians 3:13 and Deuteronomy 21:23 that anyone who is hanged on a tree is cursed. This means that someone hanging from a tree is shamed in public and shows that they are condemned and have fallen under the curse (judgement for sin) of God. Jesus was placed on a tree (cross) in public, shamed, and became a curse for everyone. He took your sin, shame, and sickness in your place. The cross was an exchange of the curse for a blessing.
Galatians 3 is clear that Jesus became a curse for us so that we could receive all the blessings of Abraham. On the cross, Jesus exchanged death for life, sickness for health, rejection for acceptance, poverty for prosperity, defeat for victory, bondage for freedom, and punishment for peace. Jesus didn’t die so we would only experience partial blessings; He died so we would experience the fullness of all His blessings.
We must place our faith in what Jesus did on the cross, letting Him be our replacement for any sickness in our bodies.
Let’s look at some of the individual sicknesses listed in Deuteronomy and what Christ has redeemed us from.
Are you experiencing tuberculosis, fever, or inflammation (Deuteronomy 28:22)? Jesus Christ has redeemed you from these illnesses.
Do you have a boil, tumor, or itch that someone has told you can’t be healed (Deuteronomy 28:27)? Jesus Christ has exchanged your sickness and you are redeemed from this curse.
Have you been stricken with fear, panic attacks, blindness, Alzheimer’s disease (Deuteronomy 28:28)? Christ has redeemed you from the curse of the Law and all of these illnesses. You do not have to accept these symptoms as you get older. Thank You, Jesus!
Is there a sickness that hasn’t been named? Well, you don’t have to live with that either because Deuteronomy 28:61 says that every sickness and every plague, which is not written in this book of the law, is also covered under the blood of Jesus Christ.
It doesn’t matter what sickness or new disease is discovered (like COVID-19 or RSV). Jesus has redeemed us from every type of sickness! Everything has a name, and every name must bow down in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ.
You have the legal right to pray over your body. Just say something like, “This (name of the sickness) is part of the curse of the law and your Word says that Jesus Christ has redeemed me from this curse of the law. I command (name of the sickness) to be healed in Jesus’ Name.”
Believe that Jesus took this sickness on the cross and your healing is a done deal!
