I love words; but are all words good for us? We read, write, and hear words all day long. Studies have shown that we can speak anywhere from 2,000 to 24,000 words a day (in most cases, men at the lower end and women at the higher end). Research has revealed that reading 20 minutes a day exposed students to 1.8 million words a year. Reading an average of only 4.6 minutes a day exposed students to 282,000 words per year. Whatever number of words we see, hear, or read leave an imprint on our lives.
With many of us now exposed to texting, twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and other social media, I have to believe these numbers have spiked to numbers that are hard to comprehend. So, what are you reading and listening to? Are the words you are seeing and hearing benefitting your life or tearing it down? How are these words impacting the quality of your health?
In the Bible, there is reference to the words “it is written”, over 90 times. Many of us are familiar with these words Jesus spoke in response to the enemy’s temptations when He was in the wilderness. These words can also be seen many times in the Old Testament. God pointed His children to what was written in the Book of the Law of Moses, the book of Jasher (2 Samuel 1:18), the book of the Covenant (2 Kings 23:21), and the law of the Lord (2 Chronicles 31:3). We can find references to “it is written” 27 times in the Old Testament and 71 times in the New Testament, according to the New Kings James Version of the Bible.
If God and Jesus pointed to the written word more than 90 times, I think we need to take what God has written seriously. Joshua 1:8 says, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” God is saying it is important to know what He has written, meditate on it, and then act on it. Faith without works is dead (James 2:20). We have to do what God’s Word instructs us to do. Then, we will make our way prosperous and have good success. This means walking in divine health, financial freedom, and free from bondage, just to name a few.
How does walking in divine health manifest? By meditating on the promises of God and what “is written” in the scriptures. This means thinking continuously on what God’s Word says about healing until you see the fulfillment or the truth in your heart and mind. Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”
That is how I walked into divine health from a traumatic brain injury after 13 ½ years. First, I had to hear and see the truth about what God said about healing. Next, I meditated on God’s Word. I took one healing scripture, because that is all my injured brain could handle, and I read it over and over until it took root in my heart (spirit and soul). I believed God’s Word over the symptoms I experienced. I focused on what Jesus did on the cross versus the doctor’s report that said I would live with a brain injury the rest of my life—it was a permanent disability. What “was written” became more powerful than the pain and struggles I faced each day. “By His stripes I am healed” (Isaiah 53:5 and 1 Peter 2:24) was now imprinted on my heart, along with the words I spoke and read each day, until I knew without a shadow of a doubt my injured brain was replaced with a brand new brain. The pain, confusion, dizziness, and cognitive deficit no longer existed. Praise God!
Don’t let God’s Word depart from you day and night. Dive into what Jesus taught about healing and believe what “is written” over what you may be experiencing. If you are facing an enemy (sickness) do what Jesus did and speak “It is written” to your symptoms!
