In Luke 5:17, we see the beautiful and powerful miracles of healing and faith. Four men carried a paralyzed man before Jesus. What’s important is that Jesus was teaching God’s Word at the time. The demonstration of the miracle took place after His teaching. Throughout the scriptures we see Jesus teaching in a crowd and then those around Him receiving their healing.
- Matthew 4:23 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.
- Matthew 9:35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.
- Luke 5:17 One day He was teaching; and there were some Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting there, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem; and the power of the Lord was present for Him to perform healing.
Teaching God’s Word and healing go together. We need to hear the Word and truth and then miracles will manifest. Faith comes by hearing God’s Word (Romans 10:17). Jesus’ teachings were an important part of these healings, and He still teaches today through the scriptures. Listen to and hear Jesus’ teachings; open the Bible and let the Holy Spirit speak through the Word. Become a disciple: a learner, a student, a follower of Jesus and His teachings!
Another key point: The Lord was present to heal THEM. Anyone at this teaching could have been healed but only the paralyzed man in Luke 5:17 left completely healed and whole. Look at that scripture again and see who was all around Jesus while He was teaching. There were Pharisees, teachers of the law, and others who came out from the towns of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. As the crowd gathered and heard Jesus’ teaching, we only hear about the paralyzed man who left healed and whole. This scripture says that the power of the Lord was there, and everyone present could have received a healing. God doesn’t pick and choose who to heal; we are the ones that decide to accept this free gift that was already paid for at the cross. The scripture doesn’t tell us why only the paralyzed man got healed, but God’s will is to heal all who come to Him. Dive into the teachings of Jesus and learn the truth!
A friend brought me to a conference where someone was teaching on healing. Through this teaching, my friend knew instantly that I could be healed. My miracle took place after I was taught the truth about healing and was fully persuaded that my brain had already been healed over 2,000 years ago when Jesus paid the ultimate price for me. Like the paralyzed man whose friends carried him to Jesus, my friend “carried” me to hear God’s truth being taught. Just like my friend who had the faith to believe, so did these men. Don’t ever count out the faith of friends and family if they are studying under Jesus’ teachings.
Listen to good teaching on biblical healing repeatedly. You can do this while driving in the car, cleaning the house, working at the office, before you go to bed, and while falling asleep.
Remember faith comes by hearing God’s Word!
