Is there a difference between what is true and what is truth? I believe the answer is “yes” as it relates to God’s Word. The definitions of the word “true” and “truth” are similar. “True’ is defined as in accordance with fact or reality, accurate or exact or honest. “Truth is defined as the quality or state of being true, a fact or belief that is accepted as true, and that which is true or in accordance with fact or reality.
When reading these definitions, the words seem to mean the same; however, in my healing journey there was a difference. The symptoms and the diagnosis from the doctor were true—I had sustained a traumatic brain injury from a car accident. I dealt with cognitive deficit, physical limitations, and extreme pain. It was impossible to ignore these facts or the reality in which I was living. However, God’s Word says that by the stripes of Jesus, I was healed at the cross.
I had a decision to make—either believe the symptoms and the doctor’s report or believe what the Bible says about my situation. Until I believed the Word of God over my symptoms, I lived as a brain injury survivor. The moment truth was revealed to me and God’s Word became more real than the pain and limitations, my symptoms completely disappeared.
What were the truths that were revealed to me?
- God wanted me well and did not want me living in pain and with a brain injury (Matthew 8:2-3, Matthew 4:23-24, Acts 10:38).
- Jesus had paid for my healing at the cross (Isaiah 53:5, 1 Peter 2:24).
- Jesus came to earth to heal me and deliver me from destructions (Psalm 107:20).
- Jesus is not a respecter of persons and what He did for me, He has done for all who believe (Romans 2:11).
The only way to know the truth is to study the Word of God. What does the Bible say about your situation? Go deeper in God’s Word and find scriptures about what you are experiencing or a situation you find yourself in. Find the scriptures that speak to your heart and then write them down, study the meaning in the Greek and/or Hebrew languages and meditate (ponder, reflect, contemplate) on the words. As you do this, God will reveal Himself to you through His Word.
Isaiah 53:4-5 came alive for me as I studied the meaning of God’s Word. I saw Jesus as He was being whipped–one of His stripes was for the pain I had lived with for 13 ½ years and another stripe was for the brain injury I had been carrying. As I used my imagination to see Jesus hanging on the cross while reading the scriptures, it was as though the words I read came alive inside of me. I realized if Jesus took the pain of that scourging for me 2,000 years ago, then I didn’t have to live with the pain or the brain injury symptoms. I received a revelation that it was already done. Jesus took sin and sickness on the cross so that His children could live a life healed, whole, prosperous, delivered, and free from pain and bondage.
Knowing the truth is powerful and receiving a revelation for yourself is lifechanging. You can’t stand on truth from someone else’s revelation—you need to receive it for yourself. The only way is through God’s Word and a personal relationship with Him. I love listening to pastors and teachers, but it wasn’t until I spent time with God alone, one-on-one, that I got to fully understand who He is and what He did for me at the cross.
Many will ask for prayer for healing and expect someone to wave a magic wand over them and their healing will instantly manifest. We can pray for someone and speak God’s Word and signs, wonders and miracles may happen. However, I believe what is more powerful is a one-on-one personal experience with God for yourself. When you receive revelation knowledge of what Jesus did on the cross, you will know for sure that you are healed and whole. Even if you don’t see anything happen with your natural eyes, you will know you are healed without a shadow of a doubt. The only way to receive this revelation knowledge is through the Word of God and a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Find truth in God’s Word and meet your Healer, Jehovah Rapha, Jesus Christ!
