We walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). Faith is believing in what Christ has already done at the cross. It is using our spiritual eyes through the Holy Spirit to bring revelation about God’s truths. Each day, facts are penetrating the airways about the coronavirus; however, the truth is that no plague will come near the dwelling (house, body) of those that believe in the Lord Jesus Christ (Psalm 91).
Faith doesn’t deny the physical realities that are surrounding us, but it does deny that the physical world is all there is; spiritual reality trumps physical reality. The spiritual world is more real than this physical world we see and experience each day. We must use the eyes of our heart to be able to tap into the spiritual world enabling our thoughts and actions to line up with what God’s Word says instead of walking and seeing only what is right in front of us in the natural.
If you are watching the news or listening to friends and family, you are only seeing and hearing about doom and gloom. The number of people infected continues to rise as well as the number of deaths. While I will not deny these facts, it is important to put things into perspective and not allow yourself to panic. I recently heard the statistic that 96% of those who were infected with this virus fully recovered and the 4% who didn’t, already had underlying health issues. If you are healthy and strong, the probability is that you will fully recover as you would with the flu or the common cold. You shouldn’t be ignoring what is happening around you and underreacting, but you shouldn’t be overreacting either. During this time, you should use Godly wisdom and not spend your time in fear and panic. 1 John 4:18 says, “there is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” Operate in the love of God and don’t be motivated by fear.
Fear will release negative thoughts and emotions that impact your body and can open you up to diseases. You may never get exposed to the coronavirus but, if you are living in fear and anxiety, this could give an invitation to other diseases such as high blood pressure, panic attacks, heart attacks, insomnia, digestion issues, and cancer. Fear suppresses your immune system making you more susceptible to this virus. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” The power that God has given you is far superior than the coronavirus. FEAR is false evidence appearing real. Most of the time, we are fearing something that never happens.
A friend reached out asking me if this virus is a judgement from God. I can honestly say NO! There are many examples in the Old Testament where non-believers received the punishment of God, but His people were protected. We do not live under the Old Testament laws. Galatians 3:13 says, “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”). Many Christians can quote John 3:16 but they don’t read the next verse, 17 says, “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” The word “condemn” means to sentence to a particular punishment, especially death. God is no longer punishing or bringing judgement to this world. If He was, then Jesus death on the cross was in vain. Jesus bore the curse/judgement for us so that we don’t have to live under the law any longer. We live under the blessings of Abraham.
This virus has a name and the scripture shows us that if it has a name, it must bow to the name of Jesus because Jesus is above every name (Philippians 2:9). Activate your voice and speak out Psalm 91 over your life and the life of your friends and family. For your convenience, we have posted Psalm 91 as a prayer on our Website.
Be blessed. Walk and live in faith!
