These days, almost everything we own needs to be plugged in…the toaster, TV, hair dryer and even our cell phone. The first thing we look for when we enter a room is where we can plug in our phone to recharge them. At the airports, people are huddled near the outlets. In classrooms, phones are found lying on the floor plugged into the nearest outlet. As soon as someone’s phone is charged and they unplug it from an outlet, someone is waiting to plug their phone into the outlet (source). Many won’t leave their homes without a fully charged phone.
I wonder how many take the same approach when it comes to their faith walk. How many are plugged into the Source (God)? How many ensure that they are fully charged with God’s Word before they leave the house each day? During a storm when the power goes out, how many feel helpless as they watch their battery percentage go lower and lower?
We have a source that is powerful, fully charged and waiting to be plugged into. 1 Corinthians 8:6 in the Amplified Version says, “yet for us there is but one God, the Father, who is the source of all things, and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things [that have been created], and we [believers exist and have life and have been redeemed] through Him.”
Before we leave the house, we should plug into the Father who is our source for wisdom, knowledge, guidance, understanding, love, peace, joy—the list is endless. God is also our source for healing. One of God’s many names is Jehovah Rapha, the Lord that heals.
The first time Jehovah-Rapha appears in the Bible is in Exodus 15:26. God identified Himself to the people of Israel as, “I am the Lord, who heals you.” While the Israelites were in the desert, they came across contaminated water and God healed the waters. God not only healed the waters in the Old Testament, He is still the God who heals today. The healing of the water was a demonstration of God’s power to overcome impurities and contamination.
As the world’s focus continues to be fixed on the coronavirus, we need to ensure that we plug into the promises of the Lord, the one who heals. God is more powerful than a virus. Deuteronomy 28 provides us with a list of blessings and curses. Plagues, fever, inflammation, burning, tumors, and boils are all listed as curses. In Galatians 3:13 it says, Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”).
The Law brought a “blessing” if obeyed or a “curse” if disobeyed. Anyone who failed to obey the Law brought upon themselves a curse (Deuteronomy 28:15-68). Since everyone was under the curse because of sin, thank God, Jesus Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law by becoming a curse for us. Now, because of Jesus, we do not have to accept or even fear sickness, pain, or the coronavirus.
Plug into the Source (Jesus Christ) as your healer, deliverer, and Lord and Savior!
