Do you have a victim mentality or are you walking in victory?
A victim is a person who is harmed, injured, or killed as a result of a crime, accident, or another type of event or action. A person walking in victory has defeated an enemy or opponent in a battle, game, or another type of competition. This victorious person is living triumphantly and successfully. When I think of a victorious person, I think of a conquering hero and champion. A person with a victim mentality remains in what has happened to them in the past versus striving to put their past behind them and moving forward toward victorious living.
If you are injured or have had an accident resulting in serious damage to your body, it may take time to heal emotionally and/or physically in the natural. However, I believe we have an awesome Father who can enable us to be victorious. Let’s look at several scriptures and see what God says about being victorious.
Deuteronomy 20:4 – For the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
How awesome is it, that we have a loving Father who is with us and never leaves us or forsakes us (Hebrews 13:5). He wants His children to win their battles. Sickness, pain, injury, etc. are our enemies and if we are struggling, he wants us to know that he is with us during our challenges.
1 John 5:4 – For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
When you ask God into your heart, you become a believer and born of God. It is the spirit part of you that this scripture is referencing as being born of God. The spirit part of a believer is what overcomes sickness and pain and walks in victory. Your spirit was 100 percent healed at the cross when Jesus took your sickness, pain, and disability (Isaiah 53). To be victorious, you need to renew your mind (soul) to what God says about healing and not the world—By His stripes you were healed (1 Peter 2:24).
Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
I love this scripture. It is God who strengthens and equips us to handle any challenges we are faced with. I know that God was with me during my own healing journey and enabled me to face what I was going through and kept me strong enough to understand God’s truth that He wanted me well and to have victory over my brain injury.
Luke 10:19 – Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Luke gives us the answer about how to live victoriously and not like a victim. Jesus has given us the power and authority to speak to sickness, pain, and symptoms and command them to leave. He has called believers to rise up and not let an enemy that was defeated at the cross steal, kill, or destroy any part of the victorious life God has given you (John 10:10). Do not live with a victim mentality. Jesus paid too high a price for you to accept anything less than a victorious life.
Live Healed & Victorious!
